Case Study: Marconi Express spa

REQUIREMENT

The Marconi Express is born from the need to create a convenient, fast and frequent connection from the airport to the city of Bologna that improves the travel experience to citizens and tourists; as well as expanding the user base of the Bologna airport. After years of study, a fast mass transport system with a constrained guide is created, also known as "People Mover” was created.
The Marconi Express or People Mover is a highly ecological and sustainable vehicle; a salient feature of the People Mover technology is its abilityto adapt the frequency of the runs in real time according to the demand of the moment. For the crossing of the
ring road and the motorway, a bridge of about 90 metres of arch was built, designed by the architect Iosa Ghini, with two large portals that characterise its aesthetics.
The entire path of the monorail is equipped with a safety walkway that every 500 metres provides a system of stairs to reach the ground in case of evacuation as well as a station built at the halfway point, called Lazzaretto.
Our pressurisation unit serves the fire protection system of the Lazzaretto Station to protect the escalators.

IDROELETTRICA’S PROPOSAL

For this need, a fire pressurisation unit of the EUROFIRE series has been proposed in accordance with UNI EN 12845-UNI 10779 standards.
The fire-fighting units of the EUROFIRE series represent a versatile "system" consisting of the coupling of two or more autonomous and prefabricated modules.
Each module is autonomous and complies with the definition of pump set, installed on a base in metal profiles, complete with accident prevention casing and is complete with accessories (base, electrical panels, automation and controls, valves and delivery manifold that can be coupled to another module).
The machines were entirely produced at the Idroelettrica S.p.A. plant according to the criteria established by the European Directive 2006/42/ EC Machinery Directive.

THE RESULT

The pressurisation units were positioned in a technical room built by the customer in the new Lazzaretto station serving the escalator.
The presence, on all our machines, of the EPRO control unit according to UNI EN 12845 standards, with BLACKBOX function, makes it possible to store, in chronological order, all the main data related to the life of the fire-fighting unit, particularly useful during maintenance and verification of out of service. Customer satisfaction is our best reward.
