With the increase in production and the acquisition of new facilities, N.C.R. Biochemical S.p.A. has begun modernizing its production areas and laboratories. Operating in the chemical sector—which is characterized by a high risk profile and is included on the list of companies at risk of major accidents—the company required comprehensive, efficient fire protection that complies with industry rules, relying on Idroelettrica for technical support regarding the sizing and design of the systems.

Client requirements

Main objectives:
  • protect people, property, and facilities in the presence of chemical hazards;
  • equip new facilities and laboratories with a fire suppression system appropriate to the risk profile;
  • comply with applicable rules and requirements for companies at risk of major accidents;
  • minimize operational issues (freezing, maintenance) and ensure reliability and continuity of service.

Idroelettrica's proposal

In collaboration with the designer, Idroelettrica proposed the outdoor version of the FIREBLOCK system, consisting of two integrated components:
  • a FIREBOX module containing the fire protection pressurization unit compliant with UNI EN 12845;
  • an external water reserve tank connected to the module via a sturdy metal frame with gaskets.
Key technical features:
  • all piping and connections routed inside the module to prevent freezing-related issues;
  • a structure designed for durability and ease of operation in industrial settings with chemical hazards;
  • Project integration aimed at ensuring compliance with the industry’s regulatory and operational requirements.

The Result

The installation of the FIREBLOCK system has provided N.C.R. Biochemical with effective and compliant active protection, helping to safeguard people and property and ensuring compliance with regulations for companies at risk of major accidents. The collaboration has also strengthened the relationship of trust between the client and Idroelettrica, confirming the validity of the proposed technical and economic solution.
