As part of the 2020–2022 Corporate Sustainability Plan and its Corporate Social Responsibility policies, ILIP (ILPA Group) has invested in the construction of a new automated oxygen-depletion warehouse with a capacity of 60,000 pallet spaces, adjacent to the production plant. This decision allows for a drastic reduction in shipments to external warehouses: in 2019 alone, these shipments exceeded 280,000 km, with an estimated avoidable impact of approximately 300,000 kg of CO₂. In a project where logistics efficiency and sustainability are central, the fire protection system had to ensure high performance, operational continuity, and full regulatory compliance.
Client requirements
For a highly automated logistics infrastructure, the following was required:
- provide a reliable fire-fighting water supply for the hydrant network and sprinkler system;
- comply with applicable rules (UNI EN 12845:2020 and other rules applicable to the context);
- ensure operational redundancy (electric and diesel power supplies) and stable pressure control;
- place the station in a strategic location so that it can quickly serve all areas of the warehouse;
- adapt the solution to the site conditions and the customer’s client requirements.
Idroelettrica's proposal
In collaboration with the client’s design firm, Idroelettrica proposed and supplied fire protection pump-sets compliant with
UNI EN 12845:2020, tailored for the two applications:
- Fire hydrant group:
- 1 electric main pump
- 1 main diesel pump
- 1 Jockey Pump for pressure maintenance
- Sprinkler assembly (modular, pre-assembled):
- modular pressurization unit preassembled on a base made of metal profiles
- 1 electric main pump
- 1 main diesel pump
- 1 Jockey Pump
Idroelettrica’s production facilities made it possible to design a technical solution tailored to the actual installation conditions, thereby optimizing installation time and methods.
The Result
The pressurization units were installed in a dedicated utility room, strategically located to reach all areas of the new warehouse with the required Hydraulic Performance during an emergency. The result is a compliant, redundant, and reliable system that meets the safety requirements of an automated warehouse and aligns with ILIP’s sustainability and business continuity objectives.
