Elcon Megarad, S.p.A.

As part of the project to expand its production facility, Elcon Megarad requested an upgrade to its fire protection water supply system to meet new client requirements for capacity and competitiveness. The Arcella facility houses production operations as well as electrical and chemical/physical laboratories, equipped with equipment for rigorous testing of components and accessories for electrical cables: a technical environment where safety, operational continuity, and regulatory compliance are essential.

Client requirements

The goal was to equip the company with a fire protection system that:
  • support the expansion of the plant and increased production;
  • ensure an adequate and reliable water supply to protect the entire building;
  • complies with the UNI EN 12845 and UNI 10779 rules;
  • replace technologies that are now obsolete, thereby improving safety for people and facilities;
  • include a water reservoir sized to meet the project’s performance requirements.

Idroelettrica's proposal

In collaboration with the client’s design firm, Idroelettrica proposed an integrated FIREBLOCK fire protection module, compliant with UNI EN 12845 and UNI 10779, featuring:
  • a system that is fully assembled, both electrically and hydraulically;
  • a pressurization unit in a sub-atmospheric configuration, for maximum reliability and to minimize inlet/priming issues;
  • A water storage system consisting of two tanks connected in series, with a total usable volume of 23 + 55 m³ (total 78 m³), to ensure the water supply required by the project.

The Result

The installation of FIREBLOCK at Arcella’s headquarters made it possible to replace outdated fire protection systems, providing up-to-date and adequate protection for the entire building. The result has improved the site’s overall safety and, above all, enhanced the protection of the people who work there every day.
