With the acquisition of Bormioli Rocco Tableware, Bormioli Luigi has expanded its resources and operational capacity, further strengthening its growth trajectory in the glass industry. The increase in production volumes has led to investment in a new glass manufacturing plant in Abbiategrasso (MI), resulting in a roughly 30% increase in production capacity. At the same time, client requirements arose to bring both the Parma headquarters and the new production site into compliance with fire safety regulations.

Client requirements

The company needed:
  • modernize the fire protection system at the headquarters and bring it into compliance with current regulations;
  • install an efficient and reliable fire suppression system at the new plant in Abbiategrasso;
  • protect industrial buildings while ensuring high levels of operational continuity and security for people and property;
  • Ensure that water storage tanks are appropriately sized and that the system can be installed outdoors, with a focus on maintenance and durability.

Idroelettrica's proposal

Idroelettrica SpA, in collaboration with the designer and following an analysis of the sector’s technical requirements, has developed a tailored solution for the two sites:
  • Parma Office:
    • Installation of a FIREBOX with an external storage tank of 277 m³, sized to meet the project’s performance requirements.
  • Abbiategrasso (MI) Office:
    • Installation of FIREBLOCK, an outdoor water supply system for fire protection systems, consisting of:
      • FIREBOX module with a fire suppression pressurization unit compliant with UNI EN 12845;
      • outdoor water storage tank;
    • connection between the two components via a sturdy metal frame with gaskets;
    • Routing of piping inside the FIREBOX to ensure protection and a neat system layout (and to reduce issues related to external factors).

The Result

The project provided Bormioli Luigi with a modern, reliable, and code-compliant fire protection system at two strategic production sites. For Idroelettrica, maintaining a long-term relationship with the client is a significant result, especially in a project where active protection plays a central role in safeguarding people, facilities, and assets.
