Macron Sportswear has built a new facility at VGP Park Valsamoggia (Valsamoggia, BO) to accommodate the company’s rapid growth: a total area of 55,000 m² comprising two buildings (a warehouse and an office building). To ensure comprehensive protection and a rapid response in the event of a fire, a fire suppression system was needed that could serve both structures with high Hydraulic Performance and reliability.
Client requirements
The solution had to meet stringent requirements:
to supply both the warehouse’s fire hydrant system (16,106 m²) and the office facilities (6,678 m²);
ensure that flow rate and pressure comply with UNI EN 12845:2019 for fire hydrant systems and with NFPA standards for sprinkler systems;
locate the pumping station in a strategic position so that it can quickly serve both buildings;
ensure operational continuity, ease of maintenance, and integration into the designated equipment room.
Idroelettrica's proposal
Idroelettrica designed and supplied pressurization units sized to meet the combined client requirements for fire hydrants and sprinklers, which were installed in the utility room prepared by the construction company. Main components of the supply:
Pressurization units for fire hydrant systems compliant with UNI EN 12845:2019, featuring 2 horizontal-shaft motor pumps and 1 Jockey Pump to maintain constant pressure.
Sprinkler system unit with 1 split-case motor pump compliant with NFPA 20 and a dedicated Jockey Pump.
Electrical control panels and control units for startup management and diagnostics (EPRO control unit if requested or specified).
Strategic placement of the pumping station in a central location between the two buildings to minimize pressure losses and ensure the design Hydraulic Performance.
Coordination with the designer and contractor for the integration of building systems and commissioning.
The Result
The solution implemented has ensured that Macron:
a reliable and compliant water supply for fire hydrants and sprinklers in both buildings;
Hydraulic Performance in line with the design and regulatory requirements;
strategic location of the pumping station, which allows for rapid service to all departments;
Integrated installation and testing completed to the customer’s satisfaction.
The Result: effective site protection and operational continuity for logistics and administrative activities.
