Modena University Hospital

For the new Supply Warehouse at the Policlinico di Modena—a single-story prefabricated building intended for storage and offices—a fire protection system was required that could ensure the sprinkler system was supplied with water from an underground water reservoir. This project is part of a series of facility upgrades aimed at protecting materials, patients, and critical hospital operations.

Client requirements

The designer requested:
  • a reliable pump station to supply the automatic sprinkler system;
  • a solution compatible with the existing underground water reservoir;
  • elimination of pump priming issues and maximum accessibility for maintenance;
  • compliance with technical regulations and ease of integration with the prefabricated construction site.

Idroelettrica's proposal

Idroelettrica’s proposal for a FIREBOX NFPA module was followed by its supply, which was installed on top of the existing underground tank. Key features of the solution:
  • underpressure configuration: the pump compartment is located immediately above the storage tank, ensuring that the main pump always operates under pressure;
  • pumps and components sized according to the design to ensure the flow rate and head required for the sprinkler system;
  • full access to components for routine maintenance and testing;
  • construction and commissioning carried out in accordance with the rules of good engineering practice and applicable regulatory requirements;
  • Comprehensive technical support during the design, installation, and initial startup phases.

The Result

Thanks to the collaboration between the designer, the installer, and Idroelettrica’s technical department, the system was successfully commissioned. The FIREBOX NFPA ensured the proper operation of the sprinkler system, eliminating priming issues and simplifying maintenance operations. The customer received expert technical advice both before and after the sale, as well as a system that is compliant and ready for operation.
