Case Study
Laumas Electronics

Laumas Elettronica, a rapidly growing company with a presence in over 100 countries, has launched a major expansion project to create new spaces (a 1,000 m² warehouse, meeting rooms, a webinar room, break areas, and a metrology laboratory). The project, developed according to green and eco-sustainable criteria, required the integration of an efficient, reliable fire protection system that is compatible with the company’s production processes.

Client requirements

It was necessary to equip the new complex with:
  • a fire protection system that complies with industry technical rules;
  • a system layout that complies with the site’s requirements for underfloor installation;
  • a solution that would ensure reliable delivery, ease of maintenance, and no priming issues;
  • integration with the support infrastructure provided by the customer and with the operational client requirements of the warehouse and laboratory.

Idroelettrica's proposal

In consultation with the designer, Idroelettrica proposed a prefabricated FIREBOX outdoor fire protection module designed for under-sill installation, with the following technical specifications:
  • Vertical submersible pumps (Vertical Turbine Pumps) sized and installed in accordance with the UNI EN 11292 and UNI EN 12845 rules;
  • Module mounted on a special support structure provided by the customer to ensure proper alignment and accessibility to the connections;
  • An 80 m³ underground steel water storage tank (depth 3,000 mm, length 12,600 mm) with an exterior coating suitable for underground installation and internal corrosion protection;
  • A hydraulic system designed to keep the main pump operating under negative head at all times, eliminating priming issues;
  • A solution designed to ensure easy access to components and facilitate maintenance operations while keeping the pump compartment directly above the storage tank.

The Result

The installation resulted in a compact, safe, and code-compliant fire protection system, offering the following tangible benefits:
  • The main pump always operates at a negative head, eliminating priming problems;
  • simplified accessibility and maintenance thanks to the pump compartment’s location above the tank;
  • an underground water reservoir that is protected and sized to ensure self-sufficiency and uninterrupted service;
  • Seamless integration with the building project and adherence to the company’s eco-sustainable approach.
The solution provided Laumas Elettronica with effective protection for its new facilities and ensured operational continuity for its production and laboratory activities.
