Firebox VTP

FireboxVTP - Idroelettrica Spa

The Firebox VTP is a complete, autonomous prefabricated outdoor fire‑protection unit designed for pump sets with Vertical Turbine Pumps (VTP), driven by either electric or diesel engines. It is been designed for maximum maintenance accessibility thanks to its removable roof.

  • Flow rate Q up to 450 m³/h
  • Head H up to 168 m.w.c.
  • Electric Pumps up to 100 kW
  • Diesel Pumps up to 108 kW in NA curve

The Firebox VTP is engineered for high‑level fire‑fighting installations that require reliability, accessibility and regulatory compliance. This prefabricated module integrates the technical compartment for a UNI EN 12845‑compliant fire‑fighting pump set with vertical turbine pumps (VTP), providing a compact, service‑friendly solution ready for deployment. Vertical Turbine Pumps (also available in submerged axial‑flow versions) are particularly valued in high‑specification projects because they ensure continuous service and stable performance. The module is engineered for outdoor installation and can be integrated with existing buried water reserves, allowing a flooded‑suction configuration even with an underground tank (in accordance with UNI EN 12845 10.6.1). Compared to fully underground systems, Firebox VTP makes inspections and interventions simpler, improving long-term management. The structure is designed to reduce risks for operators (no ladders or obstacles) and to comply with safety and system requirements (Legislative Decree 81/08, CEI 64-8).

Key Features

  • Complete and autonomous fire pump room for sets with VTP vertical pumps.
  • Compatibility with electric motors and diesel engines.
  • Removable roof for easier maintenance and component handling.
  • Walls made of sandwich panels that are fully openable: total accessibility.
  • Structure designed for installation even in seismic zones.
  • R60 load-bearing structure and UNI EN 1090 certifiable steelwork.
  • CE certification in accordance with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
  • Can be used with existing underground water reserves.

Advantages

  • Guaranteed backflow prevention with VTP, even with an in-ground tank: more consistent inlet performance and greater operational reliability.
  • Simplified maintenance: removable roof + openable walls = faster and safer interventions.
  • Modern alternative to fully underground integrated systems: more access, more control, less operational complexity.
  • With a diesel engine, the cardan shaft between the right-angle gear and the engine promotes smooth transmission, reducing vibrations and mechanical stress.
  • Compliance with main regulations: UNI EN 12845, UNI 11292, UNI 10779, CEI 64-8, Legislative Decree 81/08.

Technical specifications

  • Design and execution according to UNI EN 1090 Part 1 and Part 2 (CE certifiable steelwork).
  • Load-bearing structure in steel profiles with R60 fire resistance (UNI EN 12845:2020 10.3.1).
  • Walls in sandwich panels with 80 mm rock wool and EI60 performance.
  • System equipment (depending on project/specifications):
    • Bulb sprinkler + flow switch (UNI EN 12845 10.3.2, with possible UNI 10779 exclusions)
    • Ventilation grille sized according to UNI 11292 5.4.1
    • Alarm management panel A and B 220 V with backup battery, siren, and flashing light
    • Flow meter with valve
    • Electric anti-freeze convector 230 V with thermostat, CE marking
    • Standard and emergency lighting compliant with UNI 11292
    • 34A 144BC fire extinguisher and, where required, 113BC
    • Wiring with FG16 OM16 0.6/1 kV cables compliant with CEI EN 60332-3-24 and minimum cross-section 2.5 mm² Cu (UNI EN 12845 – 10.8.2)

Customizations

  • Configuration with electric VTP pump and/or diesel VTP pump.
  • Integration on existing underground tanks or new water reserves.
  • Equipment and panels based on risk, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Finishes and colors on request (in addition to the company standard, if applicable).
