Suction filters
QUESTION
When is it necessary to install filters on the suction pipes of the main fire-fighting pumps?
ANSWER
As indicated by UNI EN 12845 9.3.6, the suction filters must be installed in the following cases:
• Always, when the pumps are positive head, the filter must be installed upstream of the bottom valve.
• Only in the case of open tanks, when the pumps are suction lift, the filter must be installed on the suction pipe and must be outside the tank. A shut-off gate has to be installed between the tank and the filter.
